Frontline attack against HIV infection is closer to reality

Professor Eric Gowans and Dr Branka Grubor-Bauk have reported recent findings from their Virology Group in the Nature journal Scientific Reports. Their laboratory studies represent an important step forward in attempts to introduce a first line of defence against HIV at the site of infection. First and third authors on this publication, Khamis Tomusange and Jason Gummow, both recently completed their PhDs with Eric and Branka as their supervisors. To date, these research findings have been reported in today's Advertiser newspaper, ABC online, Gay News Network and many more beyond our shores. These research results are being discussed ahead of World AIDS Day which is held on 1 December every year. World AIDS Day raises awareness across the world and in the community about the issues surrounding HIV and AIDS. It is also a day for people to show their support for people living with HIV and to commemorate people who have died.
