Professor John D. Horowitz MBBS, PhD, FRACP

John Horowitz is Director of Cardiology at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Adelaide, Australia, and Professor of Cardiology at the University of Adelaide, Australia. He is also concurrently Adjunct Professor at the University of South Australia and Honorary Professor at the University of Aberdeen, Australia. His academic and clinical background is in cardiology and clinical pharmacology.

Professor Horowitz is a member of several professional societies, including the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand, and is a Fellow and Council Member of the American Heart Association. His research interests include therapeutics of angina, heart failure and atrial fibrillation, pathogenesis of valvular disease and takotsubo cardiomyopathy. His Queen Elizabeth Hospital group has been at the forefront of international research on biological roles of asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA) for the past five years. Prof. Horowitz has also been involved in clinical trials for apixaban, acting as both an author and member of the executive committee for ARISTOTLE.

As a frequent invited speaker at international meetings, Prof Horowitz has recently presented his research at the European Society of Cardiology Congress in 2013. He has published over 250 scientific articles in international peer-reviewed journals is also an Editorial Board member of the Journal of Vascular Pharmacology, American Journal of Cardiovascular Disease, Heart, Lung and Circulation, Current Angiogenesis and Cardiovascular Drugs and Therapy.  He is invited keynote speaker at the forthcoming international meeting of the Association for Cardiovascular Pharmacology.
