Title: Novel therapeutic approaches for skin blistering diseases

Chair: Dr Branka Grubor-Bauk, Research Fellow, Virology Group, University of Adelaide and BHI, TQEH. Located Level 1 BHI.

Speaker Biography: Dr Kopecki completed his PhD in Medicine at the University of Adelaide in 2011. In 2012 he was awarded a prestigious NHMRC ECR fellowship aimed at developing a novel targeted therapy for treating blistered skin. In 2013, Dr Kopecki joined University of South Australia to progress his research integrating cell therapy, tissue engineering, biomaterials and biotechnology and to develop frontier technologies for improved wound care. In 2015, Dr Kopecki was successful as one of the Foundation Fellows of the newly established Future Industries Institute at the University of South Australia where he continues to integrate industry partners in his translational research and develop therapy for patients with blistered skin. Dr Kopecki’s experience and transdisciplinary approaches to therapy development using various preclinical models of dermatological conditions and skin blistering disorders provide a platform for testing of novel wound dressings and delivery systems developed in the biomaterials engineering and nanomedicine in animal models of injury hence providing translational research outcomes and a clear pathway towards human clinical trials.
