Branka is a viral immunologist, specialising in viral vaccine development, in particular against HIV and Hepatitis C, with a main focus on immune responses that govern protection and clearance of disease.

Under the tutelage of Prof Eric Gowans one clinical trial that assessed the safety of a potential therapeutic HCV vaccine has already been completed in Melbourne. The Viral Immunology Group are currently in the process of setting up another clinical trial, to assess the safety and efficacy of another HCV vaccine, which to be trialled through the Gastroenterology Department of TQEH. The vaccine will be tested as a therapeutic vaccine on patients who are HCV infected. The hope is that it can be taken further in new clinical studies and tested as a prophylactic (preventative) vaccine against HCV.

Branka was awarded the Young Investigator of the Year in 2005.
