The BHI Facility Manager is responsible for many operational aspects of The Institute. Working closely with the BHI Management Committee, Kathryn facilitates space utilisation, coordinates major equipment purchases, assists in implementation of Work, Health and Safety and provides general assistance to research staff and students.
All new staff and students should make an appointment to meet Kathryn for their induction and to arrange space and desk assignment.
Prior to to joining the BHI I spent 4 years living in Boston, Massachusetts. Initially I moved to Boston to work with Prof. Doug Melton, one of the world’s leading stem cell biologists particularly interested in the development of the pancreas. I was then recruited to the Harvard-MIT Health Science Technology Division to manage the Laboratory of Multiscale Regenerative Technologies with Prof Sangeeta Bhatia. This laboratory specialises in bioengineering, tissue patterning, cancer detection and the development of potential therapies using nanoparticles.
Originally from Adelaide, Kathryn has a Bachelor of Science from the University of Adelaide, an Honours degree from Flinders University and has held research based positions working in developmental biology laboratories at the Flinders Medical Centre and with Prof Peter Rathjen at The School of Molecular and Biomedical Science at the University of Adelaide.
