Results of pilot NACIAM study presented in Rome

Final year PhD student with Prof John Beltrame, Sivabaskari Pasupathy (Tharshy), has presented results from the pilot NACIAM study at the European Society of Cardiology meeting in Rome. Many media stories have been generated from this presentation and the press conference given by Prof Beltrame.

Postdoctoral researcher Dr Amy Holmes is short listed for LUSH prize

Dr Amy Holmes, a postdoctoral researcher with the Therapeutics Research Centre based at the BHI, has been short-listed for a Young Researcher Award in the 2016 LUSH prize which supports animal-free testing. 55 projects and scientists from 21 countries now go through to the next round of judging in September. Up to 5 winners of the Young Researcher Award stand to gain £10,000 to further their career in non-animal testing.

BHI researchers discuss their work on 5AA radio today

BHI researchers Professor Andreas Evdokiou (Breast Cancer Research Unit), Associate Professor Joanne Young (Colorectal Cancer Research Group) and Professor Catherine Hill (Rheumatology Research Group) (L-R in photo) will each talk about their research today on 5AA radio. Their work, and that of all researchers based at the Basil Hetzel Institute, The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, is supported by The Hospital Research Foundation - and one of their major fundraisers is the Hospital Research Home Lottery.

PhD student Katharina Richter is in the University of Adelaide 3MT Final

Congratulations to PhD student Katharina Richter, from ENT Surgery at the BHI, for being selected as one of two representatives from the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences to compete in the 3MT final for the University of Adelaide on Tuesday 13 September. This photo of Kati was taken last weekend when she volunteered at the BHI booth at Science Alive! 2016, an interactive science expo attended by 20,000+ people at the Adelaide Showgrounds.

Winners of the SA Science Excellence Awards will be announced tomorrow (Friday 12 August) during a "long luncheon" at the Adelaide Convention Centre. Visit the BHI booth at Science Alive! this weekend

Science Alive! 2016 is being held at the Adelaide Showgrounds in Wayville this weekend (from 9-5pm Saturday and Sunday). The BHI booth allows you to test your surgical skills using the laparoscopic surgery simulators (on loan from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons), and use spirometers to measure your lung volume. Do this while finding out about some of the research being undertaken at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
