August 22, 2018 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

nimal.robinson@uk-koeln.deSpeaker: Dr Nirmal Robinson, Senior Research Fellow and Lab Head, Inflammation and Ailments Laboratory, Centre for Cancer Biology, SA Pathology and University of South Australia

Title: Metabolism at the cross roads of inflammation and immunity – Lessons from Salmonella

Chair: Dr Ehud Hauben, Postdoctoral Researcher, The University of Adelaide, Discipline of Surgery, Level 1 BHI, TQEH. [email protected]

Speaker biography: Dr Nirmal Robinson graduated in pharmacy from JSS College of Pharmacy, Ooty, India. He then pursued a career in science and received his PhD from the University of Bonn, Germany working with Professor Georg Plum on identifying mechanisms by which Mycobacteria prevent the fusion of phagosomes with lysosomes. He then did his postdoctoral training in the lab of Professor Subash Sad at the Institute for Biological Sciences, National Research Council of Canada, Ottawa. During this time, he deciphered the role of type-I interferons in regulating necroptotic cell death in macrophages upon Salmonella infection. He started his own lab at the CECAD Research Centre, University of Cologne in 2012. His research interests lie in understanding the molecular cross-talk between metabolism and immunity. Using Salmonella typhimurium as a model pathogen his team has unravelled key molecular pathways that connect metabolism, inflammation and immunity. Since the beginning of 2018 he is leading the inflammation and human ailments laboratory at the Centre for Cancer Biology, University of South Australia.
