Paul is a surgical registrar undertaking a Masters of Philosophy (Surgery) with the Department of Surgery, The Queen Elizabeth Hospital. His special area of interest is hernia surgery and surgical mesh. He intends to undertake specialist training in the field of General Surgery, whilst maintaining an active interest in academic surgical research.


Paul will be working on establishing a mesh-tissue integration (MTI) index in a porcine model, in addition to this, other secondary projects will involve looking into the role of biofilms in hernia mesh, mortality in hernia repair and developing protocols for a hernia multi-disciplinary team unit. He hopes that this research will help surgeons to adopt a more scientific approach when selecting hernia mesh products for their patients, improving hernia surgery outcomes.
