PhD Commenced: 2019

Supervisors: Professor Tim Price and Associate Professor Joanne Young

Thesis Title: The Pathology of Young Onset Colorectal Cancer

Scholarship: The University of Adelaide International Wildcard Scholarship

Reger is interested in investigating the molecular and cellular mechanisms that influence the development of cancer and affect the progression of this disease. He has four published papers related to colorectal cancer and melanoma. He has worked as a lecturer at the University of Duhok performing various duties such as teaching, invigilating examinations, supervising undergraduate students, checking and assessing students’ work and attending and speaking at conferences and seminars. Reger also has 6 years of experience in marketing and selling pharmaceutical products.

The main emphasis of Reger’s current research is to investigate the epigenetics, genetics and pathology of young-onset colorectal cancer (YOCRC). He is particularly interested in studying the association of personal and family history of type 2 diabetes (T2D) with the risk for YOCRC. According to the South Australian Young Onset (SAYO) CRC study, there is a highly significant association between YOCRC and personal and familial risk of T2D. Reger is extending the established study, and studying both a novel mechanistic basis for YOCRC as well as the feasibility of identifying those young at highest risk in the primary healthcare setting.
