Endocrinology Unit 

The Endocrine Unit at TQEH conducts research in endocrinology, mainly in areas relating to diabetes and osteoporosis. Our research aims at gaining clinical endocrine knowledge through clinical trials and other research projects. We also conduct research in translational research and patient care quality improvement projects to increase patient care ability.

Currently, we are the Adelaide site of a multi-centre double-blind, randomised, placebo-controlled trial (T4DM) to determine the efficacy of Testosterone treatment together with a lifestyle program to prevent progression to type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in men with pre-diabetes and relatively low testosterone levels in comparison to a lifestyle program alone. [NHMRC, Testosterone for the prevention of diabetes mellitus in high risk men: a randomised trial; 2012-2014 Professor Gary Wittert with TQEH as the Adelaide site of the clinical trial. $4,822,905].

In another project, Dr David Jesudason has been interested in studying the kidney function and bone density changes in overweight and obese patients in relation to different level of protein intake in diet.

We have several registrars working in endocrine research and are always looking for exceptional students interested in completing a masters degree under the supervision of Dr David Jesudason.
